01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Step through the door at Lecoin, and a canopy of dried flowers across the ceiling and walls quietly sets the scene. Tucked into a residential pocket of Yanaka, the cafe draws guests primarily for its delicate parfaits layered with seasonal ingredients and its savory buckwheat galettes.
The limited-edition seasonal parfaits change their concept every month. Early spring might bring a cherry blossom parfait combining sakura paste, lychee, and raspberry, or a mimosa-inspired creation layering brisk lemon acidity with fragrant Earl Grey tea, each served with a small floral wreath beside the glass. Textures are carefully orchestrated, with house-made crumbles, crisp meringues, and juicy jellies unfolding layer by layer so each spoonful stays engaging.
For a savory meal, buckwheat galettes provide a hearty alternative. Options include a spring vegetable galette featuring field mustard greens, Brussels sprouts, shrimp, and mashed potato, as well as vegetable-laden savory plates served fresh and steaming, with a satisfyingly chewy crust. Sweet dessert galettes are also available, topping a sugar-butter buckwheat base with elements from the parfaits to play warm pastry against cool ice cream.
Drinks in the glass feature striking seasonal gradients, such as a sakura lemonade soda or a layered matcha strawberry latte. For those who prefer a clean finish alongside dessert, a generous mug of hot coffee or a house-roasted pour-over makes an equally pleasant choice.
Seating includes first-floor counter and table spaces, as well as an attic-like second floor reached by a steep staircase. Because seats are limited, booking ahead is recommended. Orders and payment are handled on the first floor before you settle in to wait for your dish amid the blooms.
